Velez College – Cebu Institute of Medicine

Velez College is a private higher education institution in Cebu City. Cebu Institute of Medicine (CIM) is a prestigious medical school in Cebu City affiliated with Velez.

Located on F. Ramos Street, Velez/CIM was established as a non-stock, non-profit institution in 1957. It was previously known as the Cebu Institute of Technology-College of Medicine. CIT – College of Medicine’s pioneering class consisted of 33 students who graduated in 1962, within the five-year curriculum.

In 1966, CIT – College of Medicine became affiliated with Velez College and acquired a new name, which is the Cebu Institute of Medicine. From its 33 graduates, has produced 4,778 graduates from 1962 to 2008.

In 1987, the Board on Medical Education classified CIM as a Level IV medical school, which is the highest category for such institutions.

In 1996, it was identified by the Commission on Higher Education as one of only three schools recognized as a Center of Excellence for Medicine. It is the only Center of Excellence within the Visayas and Mindanao area.

In 2001, the CHED also granted the institute an autonomous status.

CIM implemented the competency-based problem-based learning approach curriculum during academic year 2001–2002 with the first year class. It became a full PBL curriculum by school year 2003–2004, in all three year levels. The first full PBL batch graduated in 2005, and they took the board examinations within the same year with an impressive 98% passing rate and with two students topping the boards.

CIM logoApproximately 110 CIM graduates have placed in the Physician’s Licensure Examinations top ten, with eight graduates bagging first place. Over the past 10 years, CIM has obtained a 93.3% average passing percentage, making it among the top five medical schools in the Philippines. In the last six consecutive board examinations, CIM has scored an immaculate passing percentage of 100%. CIM thus takes pride in its exemplary track record in the medical licensure examinations in the Philippines.

CIM is also accredited by the Philippine Accreditation of Schools, Colleges and Universities, and it is the first medical school in the VisMin area to be granted this recognition. The institute is affiliated with Cebu Velez General Hospital, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Chong Hua Hospital.

Good day Ma’am/Sir. I would just like to ask if there’s already a schedule for an entrance exam for an upcoming college student in your school. My cousin is asking because she would probably set a schedule to go here in Cebu. She’s staying in Iligan City right now. Thank you and Godbless. 🙂
