
The University of Cebu, commonly referred to as UC, is a premier educational institution in the Visayas region. The university was founded in 1964 by Atty. Augusto W. Go as an institution of higher learning committed to authentic education.
UC currently has four campuses, specifically (1) the Main Campus, which is located along Sanciangko St.; (2) the Banilad Campus located along Gov. Cuenco Ave., in Banilad; (3) the UC-LM Campus, which is the campus for students in the Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue area; and (4) the UC Maritime Educational Training Center (METC), which is situated along Alumnos St., in Mambaling. The former UC-South Campus, which was also located along Sanciangko St., is now defunct and has been demolished to give way to the expansion of Elizabeth Mall, also popularly known as E-Mall, which is a sister company of UC.
UC was initially established as Cebu College of Commerce and it offered the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Associate in Secretarial Science during its initial year. On its eighth year, the institution opened more courses including Education, Liberal Arts, Customs, and Criminology. CCC then changed its name in 1972, and was then known as the Cebu Central Colleges, which offered more undergraduate curricular programs, a graduate school, and a training course for Marine Officers. In 1983, UC was the first to offer Computer Science in Cebu and in the entire Region VII. The university earned
UC-Main offers basic education programs, specifically Pre-Elementary, Elementary (Grades 1 to 6) and High School (1st to 4th year). The courses offered at UC Main include baccalaureate degrees for various Engineering courses, Education (BEEd, SPED, BSEd), Accountancy, Commerce, Computer Secretarial, Criminology, Customs Administration, HRM (Associate and BS), BS Psychology, Industrial Psychology, IT, ACT (Animation), AB Political Science, AB English, CISCO Networking Academy (Module 1 – 4), English Communication Skills, and Conversational Korean.
UC-Banilad trains nursing and health care undergraduates apart from Engineering and Education, and other courses. Other special courses offered in the campus are English as a Second Language (ESL) and Call Center Training courses.
UC-LM also offers basic education programs and several college and elective courses. The UC-METC offers trainings for future seafarers.
The university has been awarded by the Commission on Higher Education a “Deregulated” status and has received accreditation from the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation.
