No plans this weekend?
Want a different kind of TGIF and TGIS?
Well, here’s a suggestion. Come and experience Japanese culture in this year’s Bon Odori Festival this August 12 to 13, 2016.
This year, the two-day event will be held in a bigger and more accessible venue – at Sugbo Grounds, South Road Properties.
Bon Odori or Obon is a Japanese festival celebrated annually to commemorate Japanese ancestors’ spirits. Bon Odori Festival is being celebrated in Cebu for three years already (the first year was in 2014 at Aboitiz Field, and the second year was at Family Park, Talamban).
On this occasion, Japanese by tradition hang lanterns to guide the ancestors’ spirits, perform obon dances (bon odori), visit graves, and make food offerings at house altars and temples. This can be compared to All Souls’ Day in the Philippines.
The program will include Yukata and Cosplay contest, Candy throwing, Mochi pounding, performances by Japanese singers and various Japanese local dances and event highlight – the fireworks display. During the event, different food stalls will also be set up,
The festival will start at 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. A fireworks display will also be held.
Buses will also be deployed at Plaza Independencia – Sugbo Grounds, Mambaling Flyover – Sugbo Grounds and SM Seaside – Sugbo Grounds. Entrance is P20.00 and shuttle bus service will be provided for free.
You will surely enjoy this event with your friends and family. See ya there!
