Inside Cebu’s Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House

Not many of us are aware that a few steps from Parian monument, there is a house that has likewise witnessed history unfolding. We’re referring to Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House located across the Heritage Monument of Cebu.

The Yap-Sandiego ancestral house is made of coral stones and molave wood glued together by egg whites. Chinese merchant Don Juan Yap and wife Dona Maria Florido owned the said house.

Built in 1675, the old residence was passed on to great great grandson of the Yap’s in the name of Val Sandiego, renowned choreographer of the Sandiego dance company at the same time art collector.

Inside, visitors could travel back time and see century-old furniture, religious relics and whatnot. There’s also this mini-garden in the house where a fresh water well is situated.
