Sinulog 2012 Competitions
It’s January once again and Cebu is abuzz with activities in line with the grand Sinulog 2012 celebration. As the city breeds a jovial mood in anticipation of the Sinulog event, take part in one of several competitions featured in Cebu’s grandest festival.
Photo Contest
The Sinulog 2012 photography contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers.
1. Modes
• Film Category – Any analog camera film size/format can be used, as long as the final entry must be a printed (5”x7”).
• Digital Category – Digital Cameras that are capable of taking Raw Format Files. APS format cameras are eligible.
2. Photo Contest Categories – All activities involving Sinulog 2012.
a. Contingents – competing or guest participants of Sinulog 2012 grand parade on January 15, 2012. Picture must be taken from a group dancing the Sinulog and not of a solo dancer.
b. Fluvial and Solemn Processions – January 14, 2012, the miraculous image is sea-borne along the coasts of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities while the solemn procession passes through the principal streets of Cebu City.
c. Float/Higante and Puppeteers – January 15, 2012, pictures of float, higante and puppeteers must include the whole structure and not the personalities on board the float. Float, puppeteers and higante shots should include the carrier inside the contraption.
d. Décor/Arch and sidelights – These pictures may be taken anytime (day or night) of arches and décor set up for Sinulog 2012. Sidelights are human interest pictures taken in the parade route on Sinulog day, or in any other activity taken during the Sinulog week starting on January 2, 2012.
e. Festival Queen – Photo must capture the subject dancing during the Search for Sinulog Festival Queen 2012 on January 13, 2012, at the Cebu City Sports Center and during the grand parade on January 15, 2012.
Registration starts on December 15, 2011, and ends on January 10, 2012.
Registration fee: Php1,000 (inclusive of Sinulog ID and photographer’s vest)
Prizes:
Over-all grand prize – Php100,000 + trophy
2nd Best Picture – Php50,000 + trophy
3rd Best Picture – Php30,000 + trophy
Short Film Festival
The 8th Annual Sinulog Video Documentary and Short Film Competition is on as the celebration begins in honor of our blessed Sr. Sto. Niño!
Share your point of view by documenting a particular facet of the Annual Sinulog Celebration or by presenting a story about the power of the Holy Child Jesus, either through film or video. You may also create a story or an actual personal experience of the miraculous power of Sr. Sto. Niño and how it has affected or changed your life.
Be an instrument in changing our nation and the world by touching other people’s lives by sharing your story. Join us as we once again shout out loud the theme that makes the big difference “One Beat, One Dance, One Vision. Cebu – City of Culture.”
Best Sinulog Short Film and Best Sinulog Video Documentary
Two (2) grand prize winners: Php30,000 (One for video document and one for short film)
Two (2) second prize winners: Php20,000 (One for video documentary and one for short film)
Two (2) third prize winners: Php10,000 (One for video documentary and one for short film)

Sinulog 2012 Musicfest
The Musicfest is open to all bands who can present the best Sinulog music interpretation (any of the official Sinulog compositions), materials may be procured from the Sinulog Foundation office. The use of any musical instruments whether bass, wind, drums, native materials like bamboos, leaves, woods, etc. is highly encouraged.
1. Presentations must be within the minimum of three (3) minutes only. An excess will merit the five (5)-point deduction from the total score.
2. Compositions are within the minimum eight (8) to a maximum of fifteen (15) members. An excess will merit the five-point deduction from the total score.
3. Participants who will be involved in any misconduct within the contest period and after the competition will be penalized by the Sinulog Foundation Inc. with a lifetime ban and will be disallowed from participating in future competitions. Furthermore, participants who will commit such acts will be dealt with accordingly by the Foundation and the Cebu City Police Office.
4. Auditions will be on December 30, 2011, 7 a.m. at the Cebu City Sports Center.
5. Participants are required to submit the names of the band members. A 3R photo of the group must also be attached in the entry form given.
6. A total of eight (8) finalists will be chosen. Grand finals will be held on January 14, 2012, 8:30 p.m. at the Fuente Osmeña stage.

1st prize – Php20,000 + trophy
2nd prize – Php10,000 + trophy
3rd prize – Php5,000 + trophy
5 Consolation prizes – Php1,000
Criteria for Judging:
Musicality (Variation, contrast of musical levels/dynamics) – 50%
Showmanship (Group execution, coordination ) – 25%
Costume – 15%
Overall impact – 10%
Total – 100%
Best Dance Crew
The competition is open to all dance groups.
1. Dance presentation must be within the maximum of three (3) minutes only. An excess will merit the five (5)-point deduction from the total score.
2. Composition of dancers is within the minimum of ten (10) to a maximum of sixteen (16) dancers. An excess will merit the five (5)-point deduction from the total score.
3. Participants who will be involved in any misconduct within the contest period will be penalized by the Sinulog Foundation Inc. with a lifetime ban and will be disallowed from participating in future competitions. Furthermore, participants who will commit such acts will be dealt with accordingly by the Foundation and the Cebu City Police Office.
4. Participants/group must present a wholesome presentation and are prohibited from exhibiting or manifesting acts or gestures and movements offensive to any group. In the event of such violation, the Committee reserves the right to disallow the offending contingent to continue its participation in the contest.
5. Dance groups are required to submit names of members on or before December 15, 2011.
6. Eliminations will be held on December 30, 2011, 6 a.m. at the Cebu City Sports Center. A total of eight (8) finalists will be declared. Finals will be held on January 14, 2012, 6 p.m. at the Fuente Osmeña Stage.
Criteria for Judging:
Performance (fluidity, rhythm, synchronization, difficulty of movements) — 45%
Creativity (hip-hop style, originality) – 25%
Showmanship/impact – 20%
Costume – 10%
Total – 100%

Visual Merchandising
All department stores, malls/retailers are qualified to join.
1. The concept for the display should be relevant to Sinulog.
2. The use of flammable materials as part of the display is discouraged.
3. Should there be lesser than five (5) contestants who will register in this category, then this category shall be considered “NO CONTEST.”
4. The decision of the Sinulog 2011 Board of Judges in this category shall be FINAL and UNAPPEALABLE.
Criteria:
Creativity / Artistry (refers to the use of materials, tools and equipment resulting into excellent, quality of end procedure) – 30%
Relevance to Sinulog (refers to an idea reflecting the Sinulog spirit and this year’s theme “ONE BEAT, ONE DANCE, ONE VISION. Cebu – City of Culture”) – 30%
Originality (The main idea is centered on the theme upon which it must resolve to impress on the audience presentation. Concept must be fresh and novel. This also involves the manipulation of elements so that the end product shows a high degree of creativity and innovativeness particularly following principles of design and composition within the parameter of aesthetics and good taste.) – 30%
Over-all Visual Impact – 10%
Total – 100%
Deadline for registration is on Saturday, January 7, 2011. The final judging will be on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. The awarding of prizes will be on Monday, January 17, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at the Cebu City Sports Center. Trophies will be awarded to the top three winners.
