Plants vs. Zombies in Ayala Center Cebu
If you have a kid or you’ve spent some time in the last couple of years hanging out with someone else’s kid, then you may have already heard about the game known as Plants vs. Zombies (PvZ). Maybe you and a kid you know would enjoy a live musical show all about the hit action-strategy game that, according to developer PopCap Games, will make you “soil your plants.”
You are invited to be among the first to watch Plants vs. Zombies Live. People in Cebu can catch the hilarious musical show at the Ayala Center Cebu Activity Center on the following dates and times:
August 17 to August 18, 2012
1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
August 19, 2012
1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The very first show will be a special one, so the organizers invite everyone who enjoys PvZ to watch. Visit or call the Privileges Desk at (032) 232-0380 for the details on how to get one of the limited entry passes. The first fifty (50) A-Card members and the first fifty VIPinoy members to present their membership cards or IDs at each show schedule will get one (1) FREE entry pass. Redemption started on August 1, 2012. Some lucky audience members might get the chance for a meet-and-greet with the characters, after each show.
PopCap released the first Plants vs. Zombies video game in May 2009 for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X and, since then, PvZ became PopCap’s fastest-selling game. PvZ involves a homeowner using varieties of plants to repel an army of zombies. A few of PvZ’s most avid fans even go so far as to call it (in Kanye West style) the greatest tower-defense game of all time.
The original soundtrack of Plants vs. Zombies was composed by Laura Shigihara, who described the game’s music as macabre yet goofy. She tried to make the game’s music have a similar feel to the music of composer Danny Elfman. Since the music for the game is quite well liked, the Plants vs. Zombies live musical will probably bear at least some similarity to the highly popular songs she wrote for the game, which include “Brainiac Maniac” and “Zombies on Your Lawn.”
The entertaining Plants vs. Zombies game was nominated for “Casual Game of the Year” and “Outstanding Achievement in Game Design” in the Interactive Achievement Awards of 2010. It also received nominations for “Best Game Design,” “Innovation” and “Best Download Game” in the Game Developers Choice Awards.
PvZ addicts are awaiting the release of Plants vs. Zombies 2, which supposedly will not be for quite a while. In the meantime, PopCap made Talking Zombatar, a free PvZ-themed app for smartphones and tablets. With the app, you get your very own pet zombie. You can dress up your zombie, make him say whatever you want, and possibly make him do some “Thriller” dance moves. Talking Zombatar was reportedly scheduled for launch sometime later in 2012.
The creature known as Dancing Zombie in Plants vs. Zombies originally resembled Michael Jackson in his “Thriller” music video. More than a year after Jackson’s death though, his estate objected to this resemblance, so PopCap agreed to replace the “Thriller”-inspired zombie with a more nonspecific disco-dancing zombie for all patches as well as future releases of the game. A somewhat ironic disclaimer in the PvZ almanac stated that any resemblance between Dancing Zombie and any persons living or dead is purely coincidental.
In the Philippines, Empire International Merchandising Corp. is the trademark and licensing company for Plants vs. Zombies. PvZ-loving kids may already be eager for the PvZ event here in our own city.
Below is the official press release about this upcoming event:
Plants vs. Zombies fans, rejoice! The game developer PopCap, a subsidiary of EA Games, will be bringing you your favorite Plants vs. Zombies live in Cebu at the Ayala Activity Center on August 17 to August 19, 2012.
Be among the first to watch this musical show inspired by the hilarious game-play of the award-winning action strategy game. It will star Peashooter, Sunflower, and a host of other “brave” plants as they defend their lawn against the Zombies.
Limited seats can be claimed at the Privileges Desk of Ayala Center Cebu through purchase tie-up with any mall outlet.
The musical is produced by Ayala Malls in partnership with Empire International Merchandising Corporation and PopCap Games.
