“Ang Summer ni Juan” A Fashion Show for a Cause

Everything Cebu took part in the Press Conference for the “Ang Summer ni Juan” A Fashion Show for a Cause last May 4, 2012, 2 p.m., at the MESA Filipino Moderne, in The Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.

Cres Abines, one of Cebu’s young fashion designers, together with Save A Life Today, Incorporated (SALTI), will stage a fashion show for a cause entitled “Ang Summer ni Juan” on May 12, 2012, at 7 p.m. The culminating event of the Limelight Model Management Modeling Workshop will be held at the Celebrity Grand Ballroom of Montebello Villa Hotel. It is made for the benefit of the Gualandi Volunteers Service Programme, Inc. (GVSP) – Gualandi Mission for the Deaf.

The show will feature the summer collections of official event designer Cres Abines ( http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cres-Abines/129608780473422 ), who is also the creative director of “Ang Summer ni Juan.” According to the organizer’s press release, this particular runway will be “a reinvented presentation of men’s summer collections, uncluttered yet sophisticated.” The upcoming event is also described as an extraordinary fashion show, which is “full of patriotism, theatrical play and valuing our history as Filipino.”

SALTI is a non-profit association comprised of concerned citizens who are bonded together by a common aim, which is to help other non-government organizations by coordinating fund raising activities and other charitable works. It also supports the National Greening Program of the Philippine government, with the help of the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) through tree planting projects.

The group trains and forms volunteers and lay missionaries in order to augment human resource needs for the delivery of services to the Deaf community. Its volunteers provide free interpretation services to the Cebu Association of the Deaf, Inc. It is an independent entity duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and is also a member of Volunteer Organizations, Information Coordination and Exchange Inc. (VOICE Network), and Advocates for Inclusions, Inc. (AFI) formerly known as Organization of Rehabilitation Agencies, Inc. (ORA). Its programs include Volunteer Management System, Resource Mobilization, Deaf Education, and Deaf Human Rights Advocacy.

This May 2012, GVSP has begun offering basic Filipino Sign Language Summer Classes. They accept walk-in enrollees and Saturday and Sunday classes are open. To all interested to volunteer for GVSP, you can visit their office at No. 5 Emerald Street of St. Michael Village in Banilad, Cebu City. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Sunday. Bring two pieces of a 2×2 ID picture and photocopies of two valid government-issued IDs or student ID.

The models for the fashion show are the graduates of a Modeling Workshop conducted by LIMELIGHT Male Model Management, which is a Cebu-based modeling group. It caters exclusively to male models, helping them gain confidence and skills for casting fashion shows, corporate and special events, pageants, and conceptualized photo shoots or model portfolio. The modeling group held a Modeling Workshop on April 14, 21, 28 and May 5, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Montebello Villa Hotel. Male models were taught by Barbie Condalor Pacia, Jan Salvador Diamola, Alfie Pactol, and Ian Felix Alquiros, among others, in various facets including personality development, communication skills and ramp modeling. “Ang Summer ni Juan” A Fashion Show for a Cause will be held at the Montebello Villa Hotel, which is the only garden hotel in Cebu City. It has 145 lovely and cozy guest rooms and suites, all air-conditioned. It also offers a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities perfect for wedding receptions, seminars, banquets and conventions designed to accommodate from 10 to 1,000 persons. The three-star establishment is located at Banilad, Cebu City, Philippines. From Mactan-Cebu International Airport, it takes around 30-45 minutes to reach the hotel by private car. From the Capitol area, it takes less than 15 minutes to get to the hotel.
