“Ang Summer ni Juan” A Fashion Show for a Cause
Everything Cebu took part in the Press Conference for the “Ang Summer ni Juan” A Fashion Show for a Cause last May 4, 2012, 2 p.m., at the MESA Filipino Moderne, in The Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.
Cres Abines, one of Cebu’s young fashion designers, together with Save A Life Today, Incorporated (SALTI), will stage a fashion show for a cause entitled “Ang Summer ni Juan” on May 12, 2012, at 7 p.m. The culminating event of the Limelight Model Management Modeling Workshop will be held at the Celebrity Grand Ballroom of Montebello Villa Hotel. It is made for the benefit of the Gualandi Volunteers Service Programme, Inc. (GVSP) – Gualandi Mission for the Deaf.
The show will feature the summer collections of official event designer Cres Abines ( http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cres-Abines/129608780473422 ), who is also the creative director of “Ang Summer ni Juan.” According to the organizer’s press release, this particular runway will be “a reinvented presentation of men’s summer collections, uncluttered yet sophisticated.” The upcoming event is also described as an extraordinary fashion show, which is “full of patriotism, theatrical play and valuing our history as Filipino.”
SALTI is a non-profit association comprised of concerned citizens who are bonded together by a common aim, which is to help other non-government organizations by coordinating fund raising activities and other charitable works. It also supports the National Greening Program of the Philippine government, with the help of the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) through tree planting projects.
The beneficiary of this event is GVSP, which was established in April 27, 2005. The group trains and forms volunteers and lay missionaries in order to augment human resource needs for the delivery of services to the Deaf community. Its volunteers provide free interpretation services to the Cebu Association of the Deaf, Inc. It is an independent entity duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and is also a member of Volunteer Organizations, Information Coordination and Exchange Inc. (VOICE Network), and Advocates for Inclusions, Inc. (AFI) formerly known as Organization of Rehabilitation Agencies, Inc. (ORA). Its programs include Volunteer Management System, Resource Mobilization, Deaf Education, and Deaf Human Rights Advocacy.
This May 2012, GVSP has begun offering basic Filipino Sign Language Summer Classes. They accept walk-in enrollees and Saturday and Sunday classes are open.
