It was a beautiful Saturday morning of a long weekend, and I was greeted by the soft instrumental music and the relaxing bossa nova tunes being played at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu. Last June 13, 2015, Radisson Blu held a grandiose two-day bridal fair, the perfect one-stop shop for couples who are planning their big day!
There were over 40 wedding coordinators and 40 wedding service providers, ranging from cakes and pastry chefs, gowns, suits, and jewelry rentals, flower arrangers, event and wedding planners, photographers and videographers, and many more. The venue was transformed into a gorgeous indoor garden, elegantly decorated with green leaves and white flowers – a set-up that can actually be recreated just for your special day.
The wedding gowns were the star of the ensemble, of course! Delicately designed by renowned local designers, the likes of Philip Rodriguez and Dexter Alazas. There were tables laid out in various themes to show the versatility of the exhibitors. And in between, arrayed lovely flower arrangements that sparkled as much as the gowns. A serenade of love songs by John Walt & Axel with instrumentals on clarinet, saxophone and violin, filled the majestic hall. It was a lovely opening act to set the mood for the welcoming remarks by Mr. Nishan Silva, General Manager of Radisson Blu. Indeed, these people know how to add romance to any room, experts that couples could certainly trust their wedding with.
What is Beyond “I Do”?
Radisson Blu’s concept for weddings, “We take you beyond ‘I Do’”, was to give couples the complete hassle-free package, from the wedding to the reception, even down to the honeymoon. Some of the features included in their packages were the venue, menu for the reception, a shuttle service, and a 2-night stay at the Executive Suite, inclusive of a 2-hour spa treatment, for the newlyweds’ honeymoon. This 5-star hotel even let’s you choose where you want to spend your honeymoon, either one of their properties in the Philippines, namely Radisson Blu here in Cebu, Park Inn in Davao, Pico Sands Hotel in Batangas, or Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay. During the fair, this all-in package was offered at the lowest rate of P1,200 per head for a minimum of 100 guests.
According to the Director of Marketing and Communications, Ms. Princess Anderle, “We didn’t really focus on the big players in the industry so that guests could have a choice. We can even cater to weddings for next year. All you really need to bring is your [wedding] gown and a cake!”. If you want a more complete package, there are also several other packages to choose from. Couples who decided to book their weddings with Radisson Blu during the bridal fair were given 20% off on the other available packages offered. Ms. Anderle described weddings at the Blu as a very personal experience because they grant the couple’s’ wishes and customize their services. For example, your favorite dish could be requested to be put on the menu and their world-class chefs would suggest what would go well with your preference.
It’s All About Timelessness
“Beauty is the best version of yourself”, reminded Dr. Vicky Belo during her portion of the program. She stressed to everyone, especially the brides-and-grooms-to-be, that it is important to look natural and not change yourself to someone else. Your wedding day will be relived in photos and videos years after the day itself so, it is essential that the couple should look and feel their best! She discussed the treatments they offered, such as facials and peels, and also shared her list of top secrets to flawless skin. Michael Lim, the event host and famous blogger for Fashion Pulis, repeatedly vouched for the quality of her services and cited several experiences he had with her clinic. Being the founder of the Belo Medical Group, the top medical aesthetic ambulatory clinic in the Philippines, Dr. Vicky sure knows how to face the facts!
Food and More Food
What is a party without a feast? There, I undoubtedly enjoyed the privilege of sampling a few of the specialties prepared by the Blu’s world-class chefs. For starters, the cocktails were even a hot topic of discussion among guests! The salmon cornet, with a cream-base of mixed herbs and spices topped with cubes of salmon, paired with a glass of champagne, surely whet our appetite.
Executive Chef Robert Kunitz did a demo of one of their signature appetizers, salmon with avocado and mango bits, a simple yet refreshing dish. Executive Pastry Chef Allan Barrios did a demo of my favorite part of the meal – dessert! He showed us his own twist to a white chocolate panna cotta with mango sauce by adding meringue and mango jelly made from purée. The panna cotta was served like a jelly but instantly became soft and creamy on the tongue. The mango tasted fresh and fruity. None of it was too sweet, perfect for kids to the adults with more refined tastes. Samples of the food allowed interested couples and other curious visitors to taste the food for themselves.
