Summer could mean freedom for lots of Cebuano students out there; no homework and no quizzes and no early-morning preps! However, the hot season may also bring boredom to some of the youth, especially those who find joy in going to school everyday and meeting their friends.
Well, you won’t have to worry for the following activities will keep you busy this summer and let you become productive even when you’re off from school:
Get a summer job.
Earn cash while waiting for the next semester by taking part in the city government’s summer employment opportunity. Cebu City’s Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) is hiring a total of 1, 250 students for their Special Program for Employment of Students or Spes. This program aims to give chances to underprivileged students to earn money for their enrollment the next year or next sem. DMDP has started accepting applications last month, and if you wish to be one of the successfully hired student employees, submit your bio-data, Spes application, barangay certification and endorsement, and the income tax return of your parents to the DMDP office at Jakosalem Street. You must also be aged 18-24 years old to be eligible of a summer job in the Cebu City mayor’s and councilors’ offices and earn as much as 327 pesos a day for 20 days, starting April 6.
Join a youth camp.
If, on the other hand, you wish to further enhance your academic learning while have fun with other students from different schools, registering for the Youth Science Camp could be a great idea. This educational yet enjoyable activity is brought to all Cebuano students by the National Youth Science, Technology and Environment Summer Camp (NYSTESC), and will happen from April 2 to 5, 2014 at the Hidden Paradise Mountain Resort in San Fernando, Cebu.
This year’s Youth Science theme is “Cirque de Merveilles: Trapezing the Marvels of Evolution”. Sadly, registration for this event ended last March 14, but, you can always refer to www.psysc.org to find out more details about the next Youth Science Camp!
