A project of the well-renowned Ayala Land, Inc., Ayala Heights is a vast conserved space in Busay that has been home to the relaxing Kan-Irag Nature Park. Ayala Land used to plan about transforming this 71-hectare mountainous area into a golf course, but the reputable company decided to make it an environmental venue that would house a wide nature park and be filled with birds and other wonderful species.
Years ago, Kan-Irag Nature Park was frequently visited because of its well-preserved forest; however, it has been in a state of disrepair for quite a while now. Although the park no longer holds its initial beauty, Ayala Heights can still be visited by Cebuanos for doing other recreational and environmental activities, such as camping, biking, and tree planting.
By coordinating with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Cebu, you and your company or group can plant trees in Ayala Heights and help conserve the environment. The place is said to be in need of such a project since some of its areas tend to erode. To maintain the beauty of the place and protect Busay’s mountains from soil erosion, flooding, and other types of environmental destruction, CENRO and other environmentalist groups in Cebu are urging others to take part in tree planting activities.

Frequently Asked Questions
(answered by a friend who has experienced tree planting in Ayala Heights)
Is there any entrance fee in Ayala Heights?
Does they offer transportation services?
As far as I remember, our company shouldered the transportation going to and from Ayala Heights. I’m not sure if Ayala Heights does offer transportation services to guests, but if you want to plan your own tree planting activity there, you may exclusively rent a v-hire, which can be easily found at Citi Link Terminal. Or better yet, ride one of the v-hires that’s bound to Balamban and would pass through Transcentral Highway and tell the driver to drop you off at Ayala Heights.
How long does the tree planting activity usually take place?
Half day. Actually, I think it depends on your itinerary. We were there early in the morning and was asked to plant 5-10 coffee seedlings using the proper procedure taught to us by CENRO. Since we finished before lunch time, we decided to have a pictorial with the picturesque surroundings, and then we went to Mountain View Nature Park to eat lunch and enjoy the rest of the afternoon.
How can we coordinate with CENRO if we are planning to do the same activity in Ayala Heights?
Contact (032) 416-6926, which is DENR CENRO Cebu’s hotline. Their office is located at V. Sotto Street, Cebu City, near Pier 3.
What can we expect from a tree planting activity in Ayala Heights?
It’s a fun activity. You get to bond with your office mates while doing something productive for the environment; and personally, I was drawn to the cool breeze, the refreshing green grass, and the stunning view overlooking the city.
So, consider planning your own tree planting activity now; aside from the fact that it’s a good team building event and an ideal community outreach program, you can also contribute in making Cebu a better place to live in!
