“With great power comes great responsibility,” said Spiderman’s Uncle Ben. There is no greater power than being able to choose. So, let’s exercise the freedom to vote! The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) reported there are still 4.3 million voters who completely have no record of any biometrics data and another 500,000 voters have incomplete information. The COMELEC said these voters risk being deprived of their right to vote.
Our ancestors fought for hundreds of years to gain equal rights and be recognized as citizens of a nation. Eventually, we succeeded which we practice through the freedom to vote, the very foundation of a democratic, independent governing body. Let’s not waste centuries of sacrifices. Register as a voter. A good start is by getting yourself informed on the requirements, process and where you can go to register first.
The government is now reaching out to us through the mall registration. For the month of July, the COMELEC released a list of malls where people could register as voters but no such list has been published yet for the month of August. It’s a good thing one mall reached out to us so we can spread the word.
