Iisa ang bandila sa Cebu! (Raise the flag of Cebu!) Let’s congratulate all those seven of the country’s highest ranking in the Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) board exams hailing from Cebu!
Physical Therapy (PT)
Kevin Delgado Velasco (1st)
John Amber Abellanida (2nd)
Paul Jonas Villavelez Chan (6th)
Occupational Therapy (OT)
Cesar Llanto III (1st)
Jose Miguel Escanuela (2nd)
Beatriz Marie Castaño (3rd)
Alexis Katrina Abella Miole (5th)
When asked about his ranking in the exams, Velasco said that the result was unexpected. He was aiming to simply pass the exams. He admitted to being relaxed in the first few months of reviewing, choosing to spend more time at the gym and playing computer games and only picked up the pace last July.
He shared his surprise and a screenshot of the results on his Facebook timeline. The result? 485 likes.
Originally, Velasco was a Medical Technology student but made the decision to shift to PT, realizing that, as he told Cebu Daily News, his “my passion is all about fitness and sports.” His advice to those who’ll be taking the PT board exams in the future is “just learn by heart because you don’t know what will really come out during the examination.”
On the other hand, Beatriz Marie Castaño with the 3rd highest score in the OT board exam said she was really aiming to get a spot in the top 5. She didn’t downplay the struggle she went through as she told Sun.Star, “The exam was so tough, I caught the fever on the first day but I know God was with me the next day.” She also talked about how much she enjoys her chosen career, “I love it just the way how OTs do it – teaching disabled people how to be independent again.”
Excelling in their chosen fields, these students are stellar examples of how far you can go when what you do is rooted in passion.
