Felt all the way here in Cebu at 2:43 pm PST (Philippine Standard Time), an earthquake shook Surigao del Norte. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported the news via their twitter account at 3:08 pm The epicenter was underwater, 41 kilometers north of the province.
According to PHIVOLCS, no damage was caused by the earthquake. At first, they warned the public to expect aftershocks but in later tweets stated that there would be no aftershocks. Below is a list of places that were affected by the quake according to the level of intensities felt:
Intensity V- Surigao City; Siargao Island;Talacogon, Agusan del Sur; Carrascal, Surigao del Sur
Intensity IV- Dinagat Island
Intensity III – San Juan, Southern Leyte; Tacloban, Leyte; Palo, Leyte; Lapulapu City
Intensity II- Bislig, Surigao del Sur; Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur; Davao City;
Immediately after the earthquake, we posted a status earlier asking netizens, “Did you feel that? #uyugpamore.” Several commented saying they did feel the quake. One shared they were on the 10th floor of a building, another on the 7th floor. We feel you – our office is on the 8th floor. The photo above was sent by one netizen, Jin Ochia. She posted the screenshot of an earthquake-related mobile app confirming that there had been an earthquake (see feature photo of this article above) in the comments section of our status.
