After impressing the judges with her beauty and intelligence, Namrata Neesha Murjani, a Fil-Indian beauty, was crowned as this year’s Miss Cebu. The coronation night was held at the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on January 16, 2012, which is also Murjani’s birthday.
Murjani’s sexy light-blue gown, designed by Cary Santiago, earned her the Best in Evening Gown award, which automatically made her the Miss Megaworld. The Best Evening Gown Designer award was handed to Santiago, who also won last year for Miss Cebu 2012 winner Pierre Anther Infante’s evening gown.
This year’s final question has been very tough, prompting finalists to pause before answering. The ladies were asked what their first agenda in their first 110 days will be if they were to become the third lady president of the Philippines. Murjani’s winning answer was: “My first agenda will be for the street children. My family and I are practicing a lot of community activities.” The young lady, who was born and raised in Cebu, told the media after the win that being able to live a blessed family life is the reason why she wants to help less-fortunate children.
In the first round of the question-and-answer portion, the 12 candidates had to pick one of the questions prepared by a fellow contestant. Murjani picked the one raised by Jehanne Frances Dy. Asked what sector in the field of tourism she would you like to improve on, she replied that she would want to focus on green tourism. She pointed out that “everything around us is created by God, thus (we) should take care of it.” She also said that the acronym for Mother Earth is M.E., which means that preservation should start with the individual.
Winning the prestigious Miss Cebu 2013 title is surely the best gift Murjani got for her birthday. The biology student from Cebu Doctor’s University received Php60,000, trips to Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Europe, and the Holy Land, as well as overnight stays at Marriot Cebu City Hotel, Harold’s Hotel, Crimson Resort and Spa, and Marco Polo Plaza Hotel. She would also receive voice and stage performance lessons from the Center for Pop Music.
Awarded first runner-up was Therese Christine Llamada, who will be receiving Php40,000 and trips to Hong Kong and the Holy Land. Second runner-up was Maria Gigante, who was also named Miss PLDT in one of the pre-pageant events. Patricia Ann Estuart, who also won Best in Fun Wear, was the third runner-up. Lastly, Ely Rose Apple Angcon, also named Kapamilya Star of the Night, took the fourth runner-up spot. The second, third and fourth runners-up all took home Php30,000 and trips to Hongkong.
Marivee Ann Velasquez was named Miss Photogenic NGenius and Dy, who was named Miss Gems and Designs during a pre-pageant event, was awarded Miss Friendship.
The panel of judges was composed of PLDT Community Relations Head Evelyn del Rosario, couturier Fashion Council of the Philippines President JC Buendia, Megaworld Properties President Noli Hernandez, Cathay Pacific Manager Rey Fung, and interior designer Cynthia Almario.
