Cebu Business Month 2012
The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), led by its president Prudencio J. Gesta, will once again host the Cebu Business Month (CBM) this year. A month-long celebration, the CBM is held every June to help boost small and medium businesses and to help propel Cebu’s booming economy.
With the theme “Soar Higher Cebu,” CBM 2012 focuses on helping local businessmen sharpen their entrepreneurial skills and capitalize on flourishing industries like tourism, business process outsourcing (BPO) and information and communication technology (ICT).
“CBM 2012 will be a month-long host for networking and healthy discourse among the business community and stakeholders in Cebu as it aims to propel Cebu businesses to be more competitive in the context of collaboration, cooperation, partnership and synergy,” CBM 2012 chairman Mario Panganiban said during the launching and press conference held on May 3, 2012, at the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu.
The CBM 2012 Opening Salvo will take place at the Ayala Center Cebu on June 1, 2012. Among the must-attend events are the Emerging Industries Forum, CBM 2012 Expo, Cebu ICT and BPO Conference, Tourism Congress and Tourism Night.
The organizers also want Cebuanos to expand their knowledge of wellness so everyone is invited to join the two events focusing on overall wellness. The Beauty, Health and Wellness (BHW) Show will be held from June 1 to June 3, at the Ayala Center Cebu. It has a lot of impressive products, activities and sessions that will help attendees become fit and look amazing. Aside from the fashion show, there will be a conference, cooking demos and healthy/organic food presentations, exhibits, consultations and daily lectures by health practitioners and beauty experts, wellness screenings, showcasing of different health-related products, and a lot more.
On the other hand, the BHW Wellness@Work Conference, which happens on June 2, at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel promises fun and creative information and interactive tools that will build the consumers’ confidence in making informed decisions to support a healthy lifestyle.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cebu heads the entrepreneurship aspect of CBM, giving emphasis on small and medium enterprises (SME). The agency believes that these enterprises are very important components in the industry, making up 90 percent of the businesses in the country. This is the reason why the agency will be holding a regional conference on June 8. It will be an appropriate venue to discuss the effective strategies and practices that will enhance the competitiveness of small businesses and improve their access to the market. They will also learn about the latest global trends on creative industries, IT-enabled services and tourism.
On June 13, the Cebu Bankers Club will be hosting the “SME Financing & Cash Management Seminar” at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. For emerging and growing industries, the celebration also includes a forum where participants will be briefed on Cebu’s infrastructure plans as well as views of property developers.
Another highlight of the annual business event is the Cebu ICT-BPO Conference from June 26 to 28, at the Radisson Blu Hotel. Headed by Cebu Educational Development for Information Technology’s (Cedfit) Wilfredo Sa-a, Jr., the event will launch the e-Gov Awards, which seeks to recognize local government units that are efficiently using ICT to improve their operations.
The said conference will also launch the Asean ICT Awards, a project of the National Office of ICT, to give recognition to technology-based innovations in the Southeast Asian Region. Eight speakers from Singapore, Malaysia Japan, and Australia will be featured in this event. This distinguished conference will also educate businessmen that Cebu indeed has great potentials to grow in this industry. It is even on Tholons’ list of top 10 global outsourcing cities in less than 10 years.
Tourism stakeholders will be gathering at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) on June 28 for the Tourism Congress. With the theme “Soar with Serbisyo Turismo,” the congress aims to support the tourism department’s efforts to sustain Cebu’s tourism programs and expand the province’s global presence. The event will showcase the initial outputs of the Serbisyo Eskwela Turismo (SET). It is a program that ties with the provincial government and the academe to set the standardization of tourism infrastructures and services to create tourism packages in selected towns. It also addresses the basic needs of tourists and ensures the sustainability of the province’s attractions.
The Tourism Congress will be followed by the Tourism Night at the Radisson Blu. The event will highlight the programs of Cebu City and introduce its latest project called Adventure Cebu.
