Benito Gaisano: Entrepreneur of the Year
The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be awarding the “Entrepreneur of the Year” distinction to none other than the founder of the prominent Gaisano Grand Group – Mr. Benito Sy Gaisano.
Benito Gaisano is the son of Fransisca and Henry Gaisano, a well-known philanthropist. He graduated with a business management degree from the University of San Carlos in 1976. USC has given him the recognition of being the Most Outstanding Alumni with respect to his achievements in the field of Business. He started his own buy and sell business at the young age of 15, and in 1978, he was able to put up the first Gaisano store with his brother, Edmund. He used his savings and some capital they were able to borrow from a bank to build their first store in Colon St. GJ Gaisano South, now known as Gaisano Grand Group, were then established.
Gaisano’s interests now include several supermarkets, department stores, malls, and even hotels, real estate companies, and other allied businesses. He owns the Gaisano Grand Malls, which operates at least 15 branches in several major cities and provinces in the country. It is not surprising indeed that his name has become a trusted household name in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
His group of companies has been the recipient of numerous awards, including being awarded as a top taxpayer and investor by several local governments. His group also received distinction for being a leading employer, with more than 10,000 employees nationwide.
The entrepreneur relates that he abides by the effective management principles of frugality and consistency. He humbly attributes the success of their business to his parents’ values and his family’s support, dedication, hard work, and love. To aspiring entrepreneurs, the business tycoon imparts the importance of perseverance and giving everything for your goals.
The 15th Grand Chamber Awards Night will be held at the Pacific Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. The event starts at 6 p.m., on June 25, 2010.

Wow, dami workers ah? Well done! But hopefully, salaries will increase, this is not just for the Gaisano group but for other businesses as well. Let the workers enjoy their lives. Higher wages po sana so they don’t have to go to other countries and become helpers. Love thy country first, love your people. Think not of your millions alone but the millions of smile you can share to all the workers who are earning less than P 30,000($ 850 ) a month. If not this, atleast the new government can help. take a look at around you. Be aware. Higher salaries, happier people, less crime, united nation. Hopefully the wage board agrees with me.
