Tabléa Chocolate Café
What’s new at the JY Square Mall? Quite a lot, I may say. Aside from Cagnaan’s book sale, a lot of new boutique shops and cafés are opening branches at JY. One of these is the newest branch of Tabléa Chocolate Café, so chocolate lovers need not go further downtown to fulfill those sweet tooth cravings.
Tabléa is owned and operated by Aya Garcia Shlachter. As its name implies, the main star of the café is the tablea, which is a pressed form of roasted cocoa beans. We, Filipinos traditionally use tablea to make hot chocolate. Cebuanos particularly love the breakfast combo of “puto-sikwate,” which is rice cake paired with sweetened hot chocolate made from melted tablea.
The café in JY is the third branch for Tabléa. Their first branch opened last July 2010, at the Ground Floor of Robinsons Cybergate Mall. Another Tabléa café is located at the Northwing of SM City Cebu.
Tabléa Chocolate Cafe offers both the traditional form of the tablea and a variety of contemporary choices. The café’s beverage menu includes special hot chocolate variations and ice-blended cold chocolate drinks that they call Fríos. They also have a selection of tabléa-based desserts, including chocolate crepes and the famous Tabléa three-layer cake. Other food choices include Tabléa polvoron, sylvanas, crinkles, mallow clusters, chocolate-covered cacao beans, and white chocolate bark. One popular choice among visitors is the Chocolate con Churros.
With the cold, post-holiday air still up and about, cinnamon-sugar-coated deep fried fritters paired with a cup of Sipping Hot Chocolate will surely be the sweetest way to warm anybody’s heart.
Tabléa is now in six locations, specifically Robinsons Cybergate, SM City Northwing, Ayala Center Cebu, Banilad Town Centre, J.Y. Square, and J Centre Mall. It is open from Mondays to Sundays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For inquiries, you can contact them at (032) 343-6669 or send them an e-mail at info@tablea.com.ph. (update 03/14/2012)
