Big Mao
Are you craving for Chinese food? No need to worry! Cebu showcases a lot of Chinese restaurants and one restaurant that is highly recommended is the Big Mao Chinese Bistro or Big Mao. This modern Chinese restaurant exudes a classic feel, with a touch of contemporary zen interior design.
Big Mao’s menu is a fusion of classic favorites with some creative new twists. Its specialties include Yang Chow Fried Rice, Spare Ribs, Seafood Noodles, and Chinese Fried Chicken. Big Mao’s Ostrich in Chinese Style Sauce is also a favorite dish that is not to be missed. The Min Min’s Prawn Roulade, which is a delectable new take on prawns with nori, is also a best seller.
Not only are the dishes delightfully tasteful, they are offered at reasonable prices and are very affordable. Their food bears a distinct taste as compared to other Chinese restaurants.
The Chinese restaurant had its early beginnings in 2003, when two brothers, John and Derek Dytian, opened the Big Mao. Their love for food urged them to venture the restaurant business, specializing in Chinese cuisine. The restaurant initially targeted the younger crowd.
The restaurant’s name was derived from the word “tua mao,” which means big person. As this description fitted Derek Dytian (who’s a big person), they named the restaurant Big Mao.
They first opened a restaurant at Crossroads Mall in Banilad, Cebu City. For a change, rectangular tables were used instead of conventional round tables.
To date, there are three Big Mao restaurants operating in Cebu City: Crossroads Mall in Banilad, Ayala Center Cebu, and SM City Cebu.
