Have you been to the restaurant made up of authentic remodeled and stacked shipping containers known as Pier One Bar and Grill? This interesting Filipino place opened in Parkmall, Mandaue City in November 2007. Among all the Pier One branches, it stands out from the rest as it introduces a new concept of “Palutoan sa Pier One,” where customers can choose from the fresh catches. It is also deemed to be the largest of all, which can accommodate up to 600 people.
Pier One is among the most successful resto bars in the country. It has seven branches, one of which is company-owned and six are franchises. The first Pier One opened in Libis, Quezon City, Manila in August 2000. It is owned by longtime friends Francis Juan, Lito Magtoto and Henry Rodriguez. They decided to open this restaurant-bar because they wanted to create a unique place where they could just hang out and drink beer without spending too much. They decided to use shipping containers because they were cheap.
Expecting only 150 guests during opening night, the owners ended up serving more than 650 people. As word of the new establishment spread, about 600 curious people came the following night. The satisfied customers just keep on coming back because of Pier One’s delicious food and excellent service. The owners were surprised that a simple idea became a thriving business. In fact, just after year of operations, a branch in The Fort Square, Taguig, Manila, opened.
The resto bar promises fine dining in a casual atmosphere. If you’re up for live bands or upbeat music, stay indoors and enjoy its fishing village ambience. However, if you prefer a more laid-back atmosphere, stay at the verandas to have an intimate moment with your family and friends while feeling the fresh air.
The resto bar assures all diners that their seafood and meat are delivered fresh daily, and processed quickly to maintain freshness. They adapted the centralized outsourcing approach to ensure all its chains only serve high quality offerings. Their wide-ranging menu, consisting of about 200 local and international dishes, is very impressive. They mainly offer Filipino dishes, but they also have Asian and continental cuisines. They serve appetizers, soups, salads, noodles, as well as vegetable, poultry, pork, beef, and seafood dishes. They also have several choices for pizza, pasta and sandwiches.
They have added a special twist on favorite Filipino dishes. Their specialties include Sinuglaw (grilled pork with raw fish fillet in vinegar and spices), Lechon Sisig, Chicken Binakol (chicken cooked in coconut juice served in coconut shell), Beef Salpicao, and Cebu’s Lechon Liempo. Seafood lovers should try the Grilled Salmon Salsa Verde, their special dish that won in the 2008 Food and Hotel Asia Culinary Challenge in Singapore.
On the other hand, the bar has bourbon, brandy, cognac, gin, and wine. Instead of having your usual beer, opt for Pier One's specialty drinks and shooters. Their non-alcoholic drinks include tonic water, zero-calorie sparkling water, soda water, Shirley Temple, and Four Seasons. Also try their refreshing Tutti-Fruity shakes, soda, coffee, and juice offerings.
To end your lovely dining experience, have a Filipino dessert like the Saba in Syrup (native banana with caramel syrup), Leche Flan, Halo-Halo or Turones Con Leche (native banana wrapped in toasted spring roll wrapper with caramelized milk dip). They also have Chocolate Mousse, N.Y. Cheesecake, Strawberry Cheesecake, Blueberry Cheesecake, and Tiramisu.
Their newest offerings are the juicy and tasty oven-baked Cebu Lechon Liempo and Cebu Lechon Manok, both of which are marinated and stuffed with special herbs and spices. They also introduced their versions of Barbequito, Chicken Skin Chicharon and Pork Siomai in Chili Sauce. They also have more exciting cocktail flavors like Bend Me Over, Sunkissed and Red Mango.
