Citta Di Mare SRP Cebu
A new city will rise at the South Road Properties (SRP) and it will feature not just a residential community but a lifestyle strip as well. Citta di Mare, which is Italian for “city by the sea,” is a 50.6-hectare community visualized as the key towards redefining seaside resort living in Cebu and the rest of the Philippines.
The master-planned community features a waterfront lifestyle strip called the “Il Corso” and a resort town, which is called “Amalfi Oasis.” Its themed resort communities are anchored by a plaza, also referred to as “The Piazza.”
Citta di Mare’s Amalfi Oasis, which spans a total of 40 hectares, has four plush residential enclaves spanning 10 hectares each. The seaside residential themed communities showcase distinct architecture that are characteristic of top resort destinations in Asia and Europe.
Amalfi Oasis’ clusters of five-storey buildings is strategically interspersed with lush gardens, spacious courtyards and various resort-style amenities. To ensure pedestrian-friendly surroundings there are also walkways, bike lanes and car-free zones. The cluster amenities include a clubhouse, a swimming pool, a bar and lounge, a basketball court, an event gazebo, and several parks and play areas.
According to its developers, Il Corso can be considered as one of the world’s finest seaside playgrounds. Citta di Mare’s waterfront lifestyle hub development gives the visitor a multitude of experiences. The boardwalk is dotted with a number of cafés, bars and restaurants. It also has a home depot, a hypermart, boutiques, souvenir shops, a Chinese night market, and other retail attractions. You can cap your day with a sumptuous seafood dinner served in a comfortable restaurant seat as you enjoy the view overlooking the marina while a dancing fountain laser show illuminates the night sky.
The Il Corso also features various adventures and entertainment facets, such as the shipwreck adventure, a heritage walk, an exhibit tent, and an amphitheater that can host your favorite bands.
In addition to the boardwalk and the marina, the 10.6-hectare waterfront development also has a terraced beach with soft white sand where you can lounge lavishly or enjoy a vigorous activity with your friends. An infinity wade pool is also available for those who seek active leisure. It can also host various sand sports and water sports competitions, including sailboats and dragon boat races.
Other features of the Il Corso include a boutique hotel, a wedding pavilion, a chapel, and several high-rise condominiums.
The Piazza, which is the central activity area of the residential commune, is patterned after Italy’s Piazza Duomo. It is in the heart of the residential enclaves and it has a school, a church, retail shops, coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and fast-food chains.
The Citta di Mare is a joint venture development between the Cebu City Government and Filinvest Land, Inc., which is a family corporation owned by the Gotianuns who also happen to be proud Cebuanos.
Shrine of Mary
Currently under construction and anticipated to be finished within the year is a 1,000-seater church designed by Architect Carlos Arnaiz and financed by SM. Dubbed as the “Shrine of Mary,” the church will occupy 2,220 square meters of the SM complex located at SRP.
The renowned Fil-Am architect plans to create a main entrance that is set against a series of walls with different heights, which he hopes will evoke a sense of mystery that one supposedly experiences as one wanders through a mythical forest. He adds that the series of walls represent the countless paths and obstacles that one has to go through before one achieves enlightenment.
The SM SRP complex will also include SM Seaside City, a hotel, a conference and convention center, several residential buildings, and a variety of community facilities. SM Seaside City is just a few minutes walk from Citta di Mare.
Noting that construction has already started, the owners hope that they will be able to celebrate Christmas Mass in this new church by December 2012.
Also, currently under construction at the North Reclamation Area is Robinsons Malls’ Maxilom project, which is a mixed-use complex development. It will consist of a Robinsons Mall, a JG Office Tower, a JG Museum, a residential building, office spaces for business process outsourcing (BPO) companies, and a hotel and convention center.
The developers envision the Maxilom project as a center that will introduce the Cebuanos to the world and vice versa. The development concept is aimed to reflect local pride as a progressive city adapting modern design as depicted in the structures and employing the principles of green architecture, which the developers believe is the best way to make use of its environment. Large openings allow natural lighting to permeate the complex, also creating sufficient ventilation. Open areas for greeneries are also provided.
