There was a time when Bisrock or Bisaya Rock suddenly boomed in Cebu. It felt different but cool that everyone seems to know how to sing Ang Tigulang by Aggressive Audio, Chinita by Assembly Language and Gugma by Agadiers. It was as if, at last, Bisrock dominated western pop.
Through the years, here are some Bisrock bands that continue to give us the local brand of music while hoping for a more Bisrock-friendly Cebu.
In January 2006, the bisrock band Agipo was formed influenced by Glass Jaw, Fall Out Boy, Eraserheads, My Chemical Romance, and Slipknot among others.
If you’re wondering what Agipo means, here’s the story behind it. Agipo is the vernacular term for the ember at the end of a firewood. This is a metaphor for the kind of spark and light the members of the band want their songs to give to their Cebuano listeners. It also relates to the folk tale about the Agipo transforming into an image of Senor Sto. Nino in Carmen. Their funny and relate-able song ‘Tamsi’ was all over the radio when it was launched.
The bisrock band is composed of Hurhey Lopez Tapales, Robert Ian Carunga, Joje C. Cleofas, Dennis Fael Moda and Ronie Bayabos.
Agipo usually performs in bisrock concerts and for a cause concerts in Cebu.

A Cebuano band that does good cover songs of both foreign and local bands, Ruthless Seven has been around for quite a long time now. They released their latest single “Ako Nag-Antus” that is played in a number of FM stations in the metro. Listen to Ako Nag-Antus on Soundcloud and you’ll definitely be impressed by these Cebuano talents.
The band is composed of Dennis Daruca, Jerby Vallarta, Karl Corvin Arbol, Dhodie Arcenal, Bopet Roy and Rey Brian Narandan.

Missing Filemon, the pioneering bisrock band of Cebu led by vocalist Insoy Ninal, started in 2002. Their self titled album with a carrier single, “Suroy- Suroy” woke up Cebuanos’ love for the local music. This was followed by the success of their next album “Sine-Sine” which was very popular that it was sold in pirated CDs. Among Missing Filemon’s famous songs are Prinsipal, Inglisera, Inday, Harana and many others.
The band’s members are Lorenzo Niñal, Eimer Tabasa and Clarence Mongado.
