Gothong Southern is among the major players in the logistics and shipping industry. Its head office is located in Cebu City, and it has a branch office that operates in Manila. It has agents for both logistics and shipping services in major ports and cities all over the Philippines.

Carlos A. Gothong Lines, Inc. has been consistently among the Top 500 Corporations of the Philippines. It has been recognized by honorable award-giving bodies as one of the companies that have helped boost Cebu’s economy. Don Carlos A. Gothong himself has been distinguished as a Great Cebuano and was conferred the award by the Cebu Provincial Government and the Sugbuanong Mga Komentaristang Nagpakabana. The shipping magnate was also noted as one of the 100 Most Notable Cebuanos of the Century.

In 1996, Carlos A. Gothong Lines, Inc., merged with William Lines, Inc. and Aboitiz Shipping, Inc., thereby giving birth to the mega-corporation, WG&A, Inc. With the merger, Carlos A. Gothong Lines, Inc. retired its corporate name and purpose. In 1998, the company reverted to Carlos A. Gothong & Co., which is its original name. It also changed its focus from shipping to becoming a holding company.

In 1997, the Gothong Southern Business Development Team was established. The company became full involved in its line of core competencies, which include forwarding, trucking, hauling, and other business ventures complimenting the needs of the logistics industries such as container and chassis repairs. Aside from engaging in domestic logistics support and transport solutions, Gothong Southern has grown and is now involved in international freight forwarding.

In 2005, Gothong Southern Shipping Lines Inc. was born under the umbrella of One Wilson Place Holdings Inc., its holding company. It boasted of a cargo vessel named Don Carlos A. Gothong Sr. that plied the Cebu-Manila-Cebu route.
