Aboitiz Transport System Corp.
Aboitiz Transport System (ATS) Corp. or ATSC, known to some as Universal Aboitiz Inc. (UAI), is the Cebu-based fast ferry operator of the shipping line SuperCat, and its principal activities are investment holding and passenger vessel transportation. ATS is the only Filipino company providing integrated, nationwide transport and supply chain solutions.
ATSC’s history dates back to 1949, when William Lines Inc. was established. In 1995, ATS consolidated its resources and expertise with two other Cebu-based companies, Carlos A. Gothong Lines Inc. and Aboitiz Shipping Corp., to form William, Gothong & Aboitiz Inc. Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc. acquired the combined holdings of the Chiongbian and Gothong Group in 2002, and the company changed its registered corporate name to ATSC.
The principal business units of ATS operating under brand names SuperFerry, SuperCat, and Cebu Ferries are engaged in the movement of people. Operating under the brand name 2GO, ATS is engaged in the movement of cargos. FBM Aboitiz Marine Inc. is said to have constructed at least two fifty-meter Tri Cats ordered by Universal Aboitiz.
UAI engaged in a terminal building program, and the main Cebu terminal opened in early June 1996. UAI ferry terminals include retail outlets. In 1998, UAI’s merger with Bacolod-based Sea Angels Ferry Corp., a subsidiary of Negros Navigation Co., created the Philippine Fast Ferry Corp.
For the International Year of the Ocean, UAI committed to incorporating the “I love the ocean” theme in their corporate advertising campaigns and programs. It also agreed to support International Coastal Cleanup Day, providing newspaper advertisements and streamers. Ninette Garcia, a first lady of Cebu City, was the general manager of Universal Aboitiz and the Coastal Resource Management Project chief of party.
The head office of ATS in Cebu is located on Quezon Boulevard corner General Maxilom Avenue Extension, Pier 4, North Reclamation Area, Carreta. For more information on ATS, see the company’s Web site http://www.atsc.com.ph/
