Cebu City National Science High School
Cebu City National Science High School, commonly known as Sci-Hi, is one of the pioneering science schools in the city. It is a prestigious school that hones the cream of the crop and trains their scholars to achieve academic excellence.
CCNSHS, a Secondary Science public High School system, is currently based in Salvador St., Labangon, Cebu City, Philippines. The school was founded by Dr. Aurelio A. Tiro on July 1970 and nationalized in school year 1974-1975 and offers the finest education in the region.
The school offers a number of tailor-made courses on Science, namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. Aside from the regular academic programs, students are encouraged to take part in several extracurricular activities, which are organized by the school authority. Some of the co-curricular activities available for the students are: Dance Troupe, Theater’s Guild, and Mathematics Club.
CCNSHS has reaped awards in national contests in the last fifteen years. Some of the competitions that were awarded to CCNSHS are the Student Technologists and Entrepreneurs in the Philippines and the Intel Philippine Science Fair.
For admissions, students must pass both written and oral entrance examinations. Written examinations are conducted on the 3rd Saturday of February while oral examinations are conducted on the 2nd Saturday of March. All applicants must have at least an 85% grade in Science, Math, and English and at least an 83% grade in all other subjects. Applicants must also belong to the upper 10% of their graduating class to qualify for the initial exam.
Examinations consist of Science, Math and Mental Ability. An examinee must obtain 83% and 80% in Science and Math, respectively, and an IQ not below above average. The screening committee will determine the top 140 students after successful examinees have undergone an interview. All successful enrollees are required to attend the school’s orientation program with their parents or guardian.

I think that the statement “CCNSHS has reaped awards in national competitions in the last fifteen years” does not done justice and is a bit unfair for those who graduated before 1997. As one of the pioneer graduates (1976) I know for a fact that from the earliest batches CCNSHS has already won a lot of national and local competitions specially in the field of Science and Mathematics.
