This year, Cebu celebrates the opening of two of its biggest infrastructure developments for the province.

Most recently, the Cebu North Coastal Road Project (CNCRP) subway tunnel was opened to the public. In January 2010, outgoing President Gloria Arroyo inaugurated the Cebu North Coastal Road Project’s (CNCRP) P2.4-billion Cansaga Bay Bridge.

In her 2007 State of the Nation Address, President Arroyo mentioned that the CNCRP will be one of her administration’s priority projects. In the same year, she led the groundbreaking ceremony of the CNCRP.

The bay bridge in Paknaan, Mandaue City, is also a major infrastructure development project under the responsibility of the Department of Public Works and Highways. The bridge is major component of the CNCRP, which connects Mandaue City to the northern towns of Consolacion and Liloan. The opening of this gateway to the North has not only decongested traffic in the area but is also seen as an opportunity to increase both tourism and investment.

The 640-meter long, four-lane bridge is only one of two packages that compose the CNCRP, which aims to induce development in the area’s economic state.  The bridge is part of Package 1, which also consists of the proposed road connecting Paknaan to Cansaga Bay. Package 2 connects Cansaga Bay to Tayud, the infrastructures of which involve the construction of a pedestrian overpass and an underpass. The project seeks to expand the two-lane Tayud Road to four lanes.

Indeed, the Cebuanos have a lot to look forward to. Governor Gwen Garcia has expressed her gratitude to the President for the successful construction of the Cansaga Bay Bridge, which will propel Cebu’s continual growth and development.
