Considered by many as the Philippines’ premier world-class boxing promotional company, ALA Promotions started in 1986, when businessman and philanthropist Antonio Lopez Aldeguer (or ALA for short) founded the ALA Boxing Gym here in Cebu.
ALA Promotions’ vision consists of the following: (1) to elevate boxing in our country, (2) to showcase local talent on the world stage, (3) to bring the sport of boxing closer to the Filipino people, and perhaps most importantly, (4) to produce world boxing champions that our country will be proud of.
When the ALA Boxing Gym was first established, it was a small-time gym that trained kids from below-average-income families to become amateur fighters. Since then, it evolved into the Philippines’ largest boxing stable and produced many of our country’s best amateur and professional boxers.
In 2006, the leadership mantle of the ALA Boxing Group was passed to Michael P. Aldeguer as its president and CEO and Dennis Cañete as vice president. ALA Promotions is the only organization in our country to be associated with Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, which are two of the largest boxing promoters in the world.
ALA Boxing’s passion and dedication made it a prestigious boxing organization and the biggest of its kind in the Philippines. The organization produced world champions in boxing, like Gerry Peñalosa, Malcolm “Eagle Eye” Tuñacao, IBO champ Noel “The Eel” Tuñacao, WBO minimum-weight world champ Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, and WBC light flyweight champ Rodel “Batang Mandaue” Mayol.
With the Pinoy Pride television series broadcast globally through ABS-CBN Sports, ALA Promotions is indeed realizing its vision of elevating the sport of boxing in the Philippines. ALA Promotions plans to bring world-class boxing events to Filipinos around the world and to sign up and promote both amateur and professional Filipino boxers and boxers of other nationalities.
To make sure that its fighters perform at their best and reach their maximum potential, ALA Boxing’s facilities and support system include two full-size boxing rings, state-of-the-art training gear and equipment, a basketball court, a track oval, and completely habitable living quarters for all of its fighters. The boxing gym is run by chief trainers Edito Villamor and Edmund Villamor, and a team of coaches and doctors is on call to ensure that each fighter is in top shape before and after every boxing match.
For those who want to train like the boxing pros, ALA Fitness was established. If you happen to be one of those people, you can experience firsthand ALA’s professional training and coaching using the methods of boxing. This training provides more than just physical conditioning.
Boxing fitness integrates fitness and exercise drills that boxers use to keep themselves fit and in shape. Through a number of circuit training programs and boxing fitness modules, members at the ALA Fitness Gym learn boxing fundamentals and, at the same time, develop stamina as well as cardiovascular health and full body conditioning. Boxing fitness also suits cross-training purposes, and the training is said to guarantee weight loss. The exercises for boxing fitness involve such things as drills, punching bags, punch mitts, speed balls, and plyometrics (exercises such as jumping and rebounding, with repeated rapid stretching and contracting of muscles to increase their power). Another benefit of boxing fitness is that it’s a way of promoting a person’s self-confidence.
ALA Fitness offers a 3 + 1 knockout deal where if three people enroll for the boxing fitness program, they would get an additional enrollment for free. Enrollment rates are on walk-in, ten sessions, twelve sessions, or monthly basis. With the knockout deal, the cost of enrollment in boxing fitness is considerably reduced from the regular rate. ALA Fitness recommends that you avail of its monthly rate if you’re serious about making the ALA training your daily fitness habit.
You can reach ALA Fitness at phone numbers (032)416-2011 and (0906)455-108 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about the boxing fitness rates. Go and visit the ALA Fitness gym at the second level of the Banilad Town Center on Governor M. Cuenco Avenue, along the stretch that’s often called the Banilad Road.
ALA Promotions’ headquarters and boxing gym are located at the Aldeguer Compound (owned by the Aldeguer Group of Companies) in Nasipit, Talamban, Cebu City, with contact number (032)236-4611 and email@example.com as its e-mail address. You can go to www.alaboxing.com for much more information about the organization or check out ALA Promotions on Facebook at www.facebook.com/pages/ALA-Promotions/202315329815988 for updates about ALA fighters’ boxing matches that are coming up.
