Palanas Farm and Resort
Everybody deserves a retreat from the daily grind. Cebu offers various choices of relaxing venues depending on one’s preference. If you want more than a beach outing, head to the tranquil valley of rural Boljoon and have an unforgettable getaway at Palanas Farm and Resort.
Located in Pondohan, Upper Becerril, Boljoon, the resort promises their guests a calming vacation that begins from the journey through the well-cemented mountain road. Vacationers get to appreciate the scenic green hills and mountains of Southern Cebu and be captivated with its rich flora and fauna.
The 11-hectare property in the mountainous part of Boljoon was established by Butch and Violeta Estella in 1990, to serve as their vacation dwelling. The couple decided to open their farm-resort to the public so they invested their time, money and effort to turn it into the perfect holiday destination.
You will be amazed with the array of leisure activities Palanas offers. Guests may go swimming in their pool and fishing at the river. They may also play various sports, visit the mini-zoo or simply enjoy the fresh mountain air while taking a rest under large shady trees. The resort has circular hiking trails that will allow you to explore the surrounding mountains and valleys. You will be welcomed by the different dipterocarps, flowering plants and perennials. Allow the sounds of the forest such as the chirping of birds and cicadas to erase the stressful noise of the city that you often hear. If you wish to give yourself some time to reflect and converse with God, climb the 223 steps to the Stations of the Cross.
The place sells the bounty of their farm and prepares home-cooked meals for their visitors. One can take delight on reasonably priced fresh organically grown vegetables, tree-ripened fruits, freshwater fish, and native chicken. For an exceptional experience, rent one of the resort’s Cessna planes and visit the neighboring islands. The day-use rental of the three-passenger aircraft is Php12,000 per hour, while the five-seater plane costs Php24,000 per hour.
The entrance fee for sightseeing costs Php100 for adults and Php50 for children. The day-use charge for the swimming pool is Php350 for adults and Php175 for children.
Palanas has a total of eight air-conditioned cottages with cable television. Each one has a fully equipped kitchen to allow guests to cook their own food. The room rates are as follows:

Explore the historically rich town of Boljoon, which was founded in 1599. Take a closer look at its centuries-old church. The tile-roofed church in the Poblacion is actually one of the oldest Augustinian churches in Cebu. Surrounding it is a system of “kotas” (blockhouses), “baluartes” (watch towers) and “morayas” (fortified walls). These fortifications served as a refuge for the locals against prowling “moro” pirates and slavers in the past.
Boljoon is 119 km south of Cebu City. You will pass by nine municipalities namely Talisay, Minglanilla, San Fernando, Naga, Carcar, Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete, and Alcoy before reaching the town. To get to Palanas Farm and Resort, you may take a bus at the Cebu South Terminal in Cebu City and get off at the town proper of Boljoon. From the town proper, you may ride the resort’s shuttle or bravely take a thrilling ride on motorcycles for hire referred as “habal-habal.”
If you wish to drive your own vehicle, you will pass by the famous Boljoon Church at the right side and the municipal hall at the left side before reaching the resort. You will see a signage that will lead you to the place. The resort also offers car rentals with the following rates:
- 15-passenger van with driver
