Pasko sa Sugbo

The city of Cebu welcomes the season of Christmas with a bang as it launched the month-long celebration of “Pasko sa Sugbo.”

Long before we even start crowding churches at dawn to hear misa de gallo, fellow Cebuanos flocked the Fuente Osmeña Circle to witness the ceremonial lighting of the giant Christmas tree, which stands proud and prominently inside the famous rotunda.

Last December 1, about 3,000 light bulbs adorning the 115-foot Christmas tree were switched on by Michel Lhuillier and the City’s Vice Mayor Mike Rama. The Christmas tree, which is made up of native materials, will remain lit up until the grand parade for the Sinulog celebration in January 2010.

The launching ceremony was highlighted with performances by Cebu’s dance troupes, acclaimed musicians and singers, and the finalists for the Ms. Cebu 2010. The opening salvo was capped with the “Art in the Sky” fireworks display, sponsored by Pyroworks. A musical presentation followed the vibrant display.

A number of events, including presentations sponsored by schools, organizations and barangays, are lined up for each night of the month-long celebration. Join Cebu as it celebrates Christmas every night at the Fuente Osmeña circle.

Truly, nothing beats celebrating Christmas Pinoy-style!
