With the rise of a new development, the number of jobs in Mandaue are expected to rise as well. The Norkis conglomerate has expanded its businesses and is opening a new IT Park right beside J Center Mall called Norkis Cyberpark, which covers an area of 114,000 square meters and is estimated to create around 38,000 jobs, mostly from business process outsourcing (BPO) firms. Development started by the end of 2013, with a 3-5 year time frame but part of it is looking almost done.
The park will have 5 office towers and 1 strip mall, The Arcade. This new exciting commercial center will have an different food, merchandise and service business establishments such as a coffee shop, an all-in-one bakery, deli and pastry shop, a convenience store, an electronics shop, a spa and a travel agency just to name a few. Below is the 3d model of what the strip mall should look like when it’s done and a picture of the latest update of the construction.
The Norkis One, a 6-story office tower with a gross floor area of 6,000 square meters, should also be completed by the end of the third quarter of the year. Just early this year, the company signed a contract with Colliers International, a global real estate company, as the new property manager for the cyberpark.
Despite the damage the 7.2 earthquake and Typhoon Yolanda brought on the province, the owners and founders of the Norkis conglomerate, the Quisumbing family, assure the public that the buildings are safe. They chose to continue the development and changes in the design have been implemented to prevent any damage should similar phenomenon recur in the future.
When construction was just beginning, Dr. Norberto B. Quisumbing Jr said, “In over 50 years, we were able to employ 6,000 Filipinos. In here [real estate], the potential given to me is to employ 38,000. We want to provide more employment so they don't have to go abroad because they will be well-trained and well-paid in our homeland.”
The Norkis group of companies have already delved into several industries, beginning with the motorcycle industry, pioneering in the Philippines and is the exclusive distributor of motorcycle brands such as Yamaha and Haojue. The conglomerate also has businesses in travel services, and industrial products. With this development, real estate is the latest addition.
