Time flies so fast! In less than a week, it’s going to be March once again, which then makes us think of SUMMER. =)
If you are already planning for your summer escapade this year, here are ideas that might be great for your enjoyment desires as well as your budget:
1. SNORKELING IN MOALBOAL
Estimated Budget: around 240 pesos for air-conditioned bus fare (back and forth), 120 pesos (back and forth) habal-habal (motorcycle) ride to White Beach or Panagsama Beach or any other famous beach destination, and 2,500 pesos for a typical all-in-one snorkeling package (includes boat transfer, snorkeling equipment rental, tour guide fee, and food)
How to Get There: From the Cebu City South Bus Terminal, take a Ceres or Librando bus with a Moalboal route. After 2 hours or so, you will then reach the town of Moalboal, and from there, you can ride a tricycle or habal-habal to the particular beach resort you are heading to.
Moalboal, a 4th-class municipality in the Southwestern part of Cebu, is a famous tourist destination for its white-sand beaches and rich underwater creatures. A lot of local and foreign visitors go to this paradise every year, particularly during summer, to experience its exciting water activities, such as snorkeling. Get ready to be mesmerized by Cebu’s amazing underwater riches by exploring White Beach, Panagsama Beach, and other snorkeling-friendly destinations in Moalboal.
2. SWIMMING AT BADIAN
Estimated Budget: 130+ pesos (one way) for air-conditioned bus fare, 10 pesos for entrance fee in Kawasan Falls, & 1,500 pesos for a good-for-two overnight room rental
How to Get There: From South Bus Terminal, take a Ceres bus with a Bato-Barili route and make sure to tell the driver or conductor to drop you off at the jump-off to Kawasan Falls. You may then take a 15-30 minute walk from the jump-off/highway to the falls’ entrance.
Kawasan Falls serves as one of the most significant gems in the North of Cebu. Its misty, cold and crystal-clear waters definitely is a great reason why countless tourists all over the Philippines and the world go to Badian, specifically in Brgy. Matutinao where the famous falls is located. The place offers exciting rafting and swimming activities (since there are 2 big falls and several smaller ones) as well as wonderful picture-taking opportunities that will surely make your summer more interesting. So, pack your bags, bring your family and friends, and head on to one of Cebu’s amazing nature destinations.
3. OUTDOOR ADVENTURES IN PAPA KIT’S
Estimated Budget: 15-20 pesos Lilo-an-route jeepney fare from SM City Cebu, 100 pesos entrance fee (consumable), and activities that range from 50 to 400 pesos
How to Get There: Go to the right side of SM City Cebu, where the APM Mall can be seen, and ride a jeepney with a Lilo-an route. You could also go to the White Gold Terminal near SM as there are many North-bound jeepneys parked there, including those that are for Lilo-an. Tell the driver or conductor to drop you off in Poblacion, specifically in Lilo-an Municipal Hall. Papa Kit’s can be found on the right side of the road just before the municipal hall.
If outdoor activities are what you wish to experience this summer, then you need not go far for Lilo-an, a municipality in the north of Cebu, has the perfect place for you! Papa Kit’s Marina and Fishing Lagoon (fondly and commonly called as Papa Kit’s) is just 40 minutes or so away from the city and offers a wide range of outdoor adventures for families, friends, couples, and other groups of people. Some of the famous activities that you and your companions can enjoyably do here are fishing, zip lining, wall climbing, horse back riding, and ATV riding. The spacious area of Papa Kit’s also features a mini zoo and a hanging bridge – places you could easily reach via free shuttle jeepneys. If you think one whole day is not enough for answering your outdoor adventure cravings, you can always rent one of their fully equipped rooms that cost from 1,800 to 2,800 pesos.
4. CAMPING AT MOUNTAIN VIEW NATURE PARK
Estimated Budget: 50 pesos per head habal-habal ride from JY Square Mall, 50 pesos per head entrance fee, 1,200 pesos camping tent (good for 12 people; cheapest is 200 pesos that’s good for 2)
How to Get There: From Cebu City proper, specifically along Colonnade Mall Oriente Colon Street, ride a 04H (Plaza Housing route) or 17B/17D (bound for Lahug) jeepney and stop at JY Square Mall in Lahug. There will then be a number of habal-habal drivers who will offer you a ride to Busay where Mountain View Nature Park is located.
With the fresh air, evergreen surroundings, and stunning aerial city view, Mountain View Nature Park is surely a perfect venue for your summer camping plans. It comes with very affordable overnight packages and offers a range of family-friendly facilities. Aside from spending a cold night in their spacious camping area, you could swim in their modern swimming pool (with 100 pesos entrance fee), play in their activity area, take pictures in their vast garden, or simply laze around on their colorful benches.
