The competition that will feature the Queen City of the South’s most promising singers is now on its fourth installment. Twelve finalists will be selected from hundreds of Cebuano hopefuls to compete for the title of Sinulog Idol 2013.
The nightly elimination round will run for seven consecutive nights starting on January 11, 2013 (Friday) and culminating on January 17, 2013 (Thursday). The performances, including the Sinulog Idol Grand Finals, will take place at the Fuente Osmeña Circle.
Each finalist will perform a song of their choice on the first night and a song-and-dance number on the second night. A Cebuano or Visayan song rendition, a rock song, a live performance with a keyboardist, and a movie or Broadway theme song will be performed on the succeeding nights.
Every performance night, the judges will eliminate one of the twelve finalists, which will be initially comprised of six boys and six girls. Only six lucky contestants will make it to the finale. On the night of the grand finals, the final six will be asked to perform a song that they consider special. The judges will eliminate three contestants, leaving three to compete for the final category.
Last year’s judges include Center for Pop-Cebu vocal coach and branch manager Jay Unchuan, Pinoy Dream Academy scholar Apple Abarquez and Cebu journalist Mark Ryan Borinaga. Surprise guest commentators were also asked to participate in the prestigious singing competition.
Ronna Jenn Lofranco outshone eleven (11) other contestants as she bagged the title Grand Champion in the contest finale held last January 12, 2012. The third year AB Mass Communication student at the University of San Jose Recoletos wowed the judges and owned the stage with her impressive rendition of “Go the Distance.” The 19-year-old Lofranco brought home a trophy along with a cash prize that amounted to Php15,000.
