Guns and Events Banned
In keeping with the annual celebration of the feast day of Señor Sto. Niño, a gun ban is being enforced in Cebu City. The Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC) passed the resolution to enforce a special gun ban for the duration of the Sinulog starting on January 10 until January 20.
Mayor Michael Rama heads the PCAC, which is comprised of representatives from the Department of Interior and Local Governments (DILG) and other law enforcement agencies. The resolution was passed in order to protect residents of Cebu City and visitors during the festivities.
Organizers of this year’s festivities have also informed the public that holding any event near or on the Grand Carousel route on the day of the Grand Parade will be prohibited. Businesses, establishments and private entities who want to hold an event on January 20 may try to secure permits from the City Government and from the City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) office.
This is to prevent traffic from worsening. The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will also deploy more policemen in areas, which have been previously determined as problematic.
