Barely two days more to the first XTERRA Philippine Championship Off-Road Triathlon and everybody’s getting all fired up for the event. This Sunday, March 6, 2011, triathletes will attempt to bring home the prestige of being the first-ever Triathlon Champion for XTERRA Philippines.
About 100 participants, including triathletes from 11 other countries, are going to test their spirit and stamina as they run, swim, and bike across the picturesque yet tough course set for them at Amara, which is located in Liloan, Cebu. The foreign triathletes are from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Austria, Scotland, and Switzerland.
This event promises to be an exciting as well as a star-studded race. Joining the race are professional bikers, swimmers, and runners from all over the world, including:
- Renata Bucher, 2008 Japan, Saipan and France Champion;
- Sam Gardner, 2009 Japan, Saipan and Guam Champion;
- Darrelle Parker, 2009 Amateur World Champion;
- Carina Wasle, 2009 and 2010 South Africa Champion; and
- Shonny Vanlandingham, 2010 XTERRA World Champion.
Neil Catiil and Noy Jopson, both Ironman 70.3 champions, along with LC Langit, a member of the Philippine National Triathlon Team, and several other Filipino elites are also competing.
Winners of the race will receive cash prizes. A Timex Expedition Trail Series Digital Compass limited edition will also be given to top placers. Winners from the age groups will also get the chance to race with the pros in Makena, Maui, where the XTERRA World Championships will be held on October 23, 2011.
