The Chinese New Year is about to begin and Cebu City will be one with every Chinese in this festive celebration. The Year of the Rabbit kicks off on February 3, 2011.
On Saturday, February 5, the first Annual Xin Nian, Cebu Chinese New Year Festival 2011 will be held at the Terraces, in Ayala Center Cebu. The celebration will be from 6 p.m. onwards. The event is open to the public and is set to be a yearly celebration highlighting the Chinese New Year. It is the initial project under the Cebu City Tourism Commission’s “What’s New in Old Cebu” campaign.
Participants can enjoy the exotic street food festival and satisfy their cravings for authentic Chinese delicacies. The crowd will also take pleasure in live performances of the popular lion dance for prosperity and some ribbon dancing. The Xin Nian will also host a talent show and a fashion show, which will feature Elizabeth Gan Go’s private collection of dynasty pieces. For those who are interested in discovering their luck for 2011, they can grab the opportunity to be foretold their fortune. The festival also gives interested individuals or groups the chance to learn traditional Chinese calligraphy.
The Confucius Institute of Ateneo de Manila will also hold a Chinese painting exhibit. Ayala Cinema’s OnStage will have a gala night featuring two Chinese movies, Chinese adaptations of Mulan and Queen of Cooking.
To bring in more luck for the Lunar New Year of the Golden Rabbit, donations to the money tree will have the chance to win a Cathay Pacific sponsored round trip ticket to Hong Kong, among other prizes.
Xin Nian is a project of the Cebu City Government through the CCTC and in cooperation with the Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu. The event is also sponsored by Ayala Center Cebu, Cathay Pacific Airways, and Pepsi.
