The UP Math Majors’ Circle (UP MMC) is a duly recognized, university-based organization of students enrolled in the BS Mathematics program of the University of the Philippines Cebu College. Since its inception in 1986, UP MMC has been organizing various activities in line with its aims of promoting the welfare and development of its members and the university, and more importantly the cultivation of mathematics.
To commemorate its 24th year of constructive existence and to continue its tradition of helping students and math educators, UP MMC is once again holding several activities collectively known as UP Math Week.
The highlight of this week-long series of activities is the Inter-High School Math Olympiad, which will be held on December 1, 2010, at the SM Entertainment Plaza, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This competition is open to all high schools in the city and province of Cebu. Each participating school is entitled to send three contestants who will form a team. Each team will have to answer math questions ranging from algebra, geometry and trigonometry to basic statistics and introductory calculus to win the competition.
UPMMC will also hold a Math Exhibit, which will run from November 30 to December 3, 2010.
In the spirit of the University of the Philippines’ 102 years of continued academic excellence, service and leadership, the Math Majors’ Circle hopes to bring this year’s UP Math Week to a greater height.
