After Summer Sunscream 2011’s remarkable 15,000 headcount, the grandest beach party is back on its fifth year now. The first-ever beach festival in the Philippines starts at 9 a.m., on May 26, 2012, at the Portofino Beach Resort in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Enjoy performances by the country’s top bands, specifically Franco, Powerspoonz and Wolfgang.
Franco Reyes, the lead singer, is among Cebu’s finest singers/songwriters. In 2010, the band dominated the NU Rock Awards by bringing home four awards. They were named Artist of the Year, “This Gathering” was tagged Song of the Year, their self-titled album earned distinction as Album of the Year, and they also bagged the Listeners’ Choice Award. They also won Awit Awards’ Best Performance by a Group of Recording Artists for “Cast Away.”
Powerspoonz is a local Cebuano band that falls under the Reggaeton Fusion Rock genre. The band is composed of Akit on vocals, Ian for the big beats and the tempos, Franklin as the melody man, Brayleh Styleh on effects, and Kingspade "Boobop"Nuñez on subs. Wolfgang is a notable Filipino rock band, which has released albums in both Japan and the United States, apart from earning Platinum record sales in the Philippines. The original members of the band are vocalist Basti Artadi, drummer Wolf Gemora, guitarist Manuel Legarda, and bassist Mon Legaspi. After a six-year hiatus, the band reunited in December 2008. The current band is comprised of Artadi, Legarda, Legaspi, and new drummer Francis Aquino.
Wolfgang is best known for the phenomenal hit “Cast of Clowns,” from their eponymous debut album Wolfgang, which was released in 1995, under Ivory Music (formerly known as Ivory Records). From 1996 to 2001, the band released five award-winning albums (Semenelin, Wurm, Serve In Silence, Acoustica, and Black Mantra) under Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Following their 2008 reunion, they have released the album entitled Villains under Semenelin Music.
Also performing at the event are Dice & K9, who are collectively known as Mobbstarr and are considered Hip Hop royalty. The group was established in 2002, and earned fame with their hit songs “Itsumo” and “6 In Tha Mornin.” In 2010, the Hip Hop group received an "Ani ng Sining" award from then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. They were recognized for bringing pride to the Philippines by winning the Avima Music Awards, which was held in Malaysia. DJ Marllon Orellano of VUDU, DJ Ace Ramos with MC Paolo Avila of REPUBLIQ, will rock the night away along with the finest club DJs of Cebu Manila, DJ Maxie Perez of VUDU, DJ Jet Boado of Club Eivissa and Nuvaine, DJ Z Zerrudo of Palladium Club and Manor Club, and DJ Jack Lincuna of AMNEZIA Super Club.
This year’s Summer Sunscream will be hosted by Sam Pinto, who was crowned FHM Philippines' Sexiest Woman of 2011, and Paulo Varela, radio jock and dynamic host.
Apart from the party, you can also enjoy several sports events, including frisbee and beach volleyball. For clubbing purposes, the eastern part of the resort will have an enclosed fully air-conditioned tent. On the western part of Portofino, you can find the Tent City. You can watch the bands perform on a floating LED Stage and dine in a “Barrio Fiesta style” buffet.
Tickets for the event are at Php600 but there are various promos you can avail of to get discounts. For the early bird promos, if you pay on or before May 5, a ticket will only cost you Php300, on or before May 12, tickets will be at Php400 each, and on or before May 19, at Php500 for every ticket. A promo on group ticket purchase is also available, wherein if you buy 10 tickets or more, you only pay Php300 each or get 50% off. If you buy 5 to 9 tickets, you get 33% off and pay only Php400 each. If you buy 2 to 4 tickets, you get 17% off and pay only Php500 each. Tickets can be purchased at the Ayala customer service counter, SM city customer service counter and VUDU.

Summer Sunscream 2012 is presented by Creative Minds Entertainment Specialist, in cooperation with VUDU (as its official club partner) and Partyholic (as its official mobile bar partner). Prabhata Sampaguita will be the official Drumbeaters for the event, while Sound Balloon will be working their magic on the Lights and Sounds.
