The first infotainment channel in Cebu celebrates its 7th Anniversary on November 26, 2010 (Friday), 8:00 p.m. at the Parkmall Grounds across The Veranda. Real Cebu Television (RCTV) Channel 36 celebrates this milestone by paying tribute to the Queen City of the South through their Matahum Nga Cebu Event Series: Celebrating 7 Years of Real Cebu Television.
The event will feature Cebu’s great local bands Womb, Wonggoys and Cattski. A music video of the song also entitled “Matahum Nga Cebu” will premiere during the event. RCTV collaborated with the Artists & Musicians Cooperative (Artist Ko) to produce a song dedicated to our beautiful province. The Artist Ko members who contributed to this song are Raki Vega, Insoy Niñal, Ian Zafra, Cattski Espina, Chai Fonacier, Andi Calope, Annchit Maglahus, Graeme Elmido, Cilee Kuizon and Aldwin Rondina.
The “Mahahum Nga Cebu” Event Series kicked off with a medical mission at the Guadalupe Barangay Hall last August 28. It was then followed by a month-long photo competition last September.
RCTV had its humble beginnings in 2003, as a cable channel which only featured advertisements. Their manpower only comprised of two editors and one office staff. At that time, RCTV was the only community channel in Cebu. They are proud to say that they were the first to come up with the infotainment concept here in the province. The word infotainment is a portmanteau of the words “information” and “entertainment.”
Seven years and three awards later, RCTV remains on top of the pack. The channel underwent transitions to lift the local entertainment to a higher level. With the revolutionized version, RCTV can be viewed not only through cable TV; the world has access through www.rctv.com.ph. The channel that merely featured billboard advertisements transitioned into a TV format programming, complete with interesting and fun shows and commercials. They also added exciting advertising packages.
