Combinatorics may be such a fancy word for us, non-Math Majors. However, a quick review of this branch of Mathematics would reveal how far-reaching its applications are, from basic computer science programming and statistical physics to optimization techniques. You can even use the concepts in Combinatorics to place winning bets on your favorite Poker game.
To learn more about Combinatorics, the Cebu Chapter of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines is conducting a seminar on November 27, 2010, at the University of the Philippines, Cebu College Audio Visual Room. The event entitled, “Mathematics Seminar in COMBINATORICS,” will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon.
Dr. Jumela Sarmiento, a professor from Ateneo de Manila University and the current president of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines National Chapter, will be the main speaker of the seminar. Following Dr. Sarmiento’s talk, the MSP Cebu Chapter will conduct a business meeting regarding the 2011 activities.
A registration fee of Php500.00 applies, which would cover expenses for food, certificates, and membership fee for non-MSP members/renewal of membership for existing MSP members.
Interested parties have the option to:
1) Pay the fee prior to November 27, through MSP Cebu Chapter’s BPI Account
Account Name: Mathematical Society of the Philippines Cebu Chapter
