To juxtapose is to place different things together in order to create an interesting effect or to show how they are the same or different. Yes, Qube does this, but more significantly, Qube fearlessly juxtaposes the brilliance of two artists who have never met. The works belong to the World-at-Large Series, an exhibition category that celebrates international talents –of Sacha Cotture, who’s Swiss, and of Jose Nigro, who is Italian-Venezuelan. The world arena converges at Qube where both of the featured artists showcase their common goal to accentuate the value of aesthetic that is limitless yet already evident and existent.
Why juxtapose? Why not, right? Sacha Cotture and Jose Antonio are both ‘travelers’ and visitors of the Philippines –who eventually found the warmth of the country quite comforting, calling it home. Each of them has personally been molded by the fusion of different cultures they have experienced. They translate this influence through different mediums, showcasing their work as artists who are trained and immersed in different disciplines.
Jose Nigro is a globetrotting photographer, an observer who tirelessly wanders across international borders, searching and then magnifying certain beauties in the planet. He captures elements with his camera in organic situations, the whole world serves as his playground. His subjects range from nature, to the simplicities of everyday life, to the mundane indicators of culture, to the candid demeanour of human beings.
Sacha Cotture is an architect who digs through the subconscious using emotion, impulse, and even coincidence to give birth to a product that is completely human, unique, and honest. He calls this art and in this case, abstraction. He has found a discipline towards self-discovery through painting. The spontaneity of painting allows him to channel into an introspective process sans intellectualization.
When Qube juxtaposed, different things were not just placed together to create an interesting effect. It is but guaranteed. Experience the splendor of comparing and contrasting, and subsequently, the celebration of the magnificence and uniqueness of each and every work on exhibit. Juxtaposed runs from the 10th to the 29th of September at Qube Gallery, Crossroads, Banilad, Cebu City.
