Apart from Mother’s Day, Cebuanos have lots of other events to celebrate this May! Find out the range of festivals and sports activities you can join this month right here:
Mantawi Festival in Mandaue (May7-14) – This festival is a celebration of the rich heritage of Mandaue City as well as its importance as Cebu’s commercial and industrial center. Some of the festival’s activities are street dancing, float and giant parade, and grand fireworks display.
Kagasangan Festival in Moalboal (May 15) – The term “kagasangan” literally means “corals”, which is the highlight of the town’s rich tourism industry. In fact, this annual fiesta serves as a celebration of the wonderful corals underneath Moalboal’s dive sites, making the town one of the most famous tourist destinations in the whole Cebu and even the Philippines.
Pintos Festival in Bogo (May 27) – It is during this fiesta that the traditional courtship dance of the Bogohanos called “Kuyayang” is performed on the streets.
Rosquillos Festival in Liloan (May 29) – Rosquillos is undoubtedly one of Cebu’s primary delicacies, and some of the most delicious ones proudly come from the town of Liloan. This annual festival aims to celebrate their famous product and trace its humble beginnings way back 1907.
Lapyahan Festival in San Remigio (May 16) – This festival is a celebration of one of San Remigio’s treasures – their beautiful beach. In fact, the province is known for having the longest white-sand shoreline in the whole Cebu, making it another primary destination by local and foreign tourists alike.
Gabii sa Kabilin in Cebu City (May 30) – This one’s an annual celebration of the Cebuano heritage. The Cebu City government allocated 300,000 pesos for this year’s Gabii sa Kabilin, which will take place in the last Friday of May with the theme “The Rise of the Queen”. Participants in Gabii sa Kabilin 2014 will be led to museums and other places of historical significance to Cebu.
Queen City International Run (May 22) – Runners from all over the world are invited to participate in this annual 13-kilometer run that comes with $1000 prize!
Color Manila Nite Run CEBU 2014 (May 17) – This running race is also a party that involves 10k, 5k, and 3k marathons. Race starts at 6 PM in Il Curso, Filinvest, SRP, Cebu City. Registration costs 750 pesos.
San Fernando XC Challenge 2014 (May 10) – Race starts at 7 AM in San Fernando Cebu. Categories include beginner male category for 1 lap, junior male category for 2 laps, open male category for 3 laps, and open female category for 1 lap. Registration fee is 300 pesos only.
4th Coast to Coast 65 Ultramarathon (May 10) – The solo race for this event will take place in Cebu Provincial Capitol at exactly 10 PM. Registration is 1,250 pesos and comes with a finisher’s medal, a Dri-fit shirt, and a post-race meal and drinks.
Bogo 8080 Triathlon (May 11) – Triathlon fans out there can participate in this event in Bogo, which will start at 5 AM. Registration fee varies on the categories and registration center is at 30 Kitchen Gallery in Juan Luna Avenue, Mabolo, Cebu City. Part of the race’s proceeds will go to the house rebuilding project of the House of Hope Orphanage in Bogo that was badly damaged during the typhoon Yolanda last year.
Argao Highlands Endurance Run (May 11) – The 20k and 4k races will start at 5 AM in Argao, Cebu, and the 500-peso registration will be inclusive of race bib, singlet, finisher’s medal, refreshments, meal at the Coal Mountain Resort, and a winner’s medal.
1st Bugoy Bikers Mountain Bike Challenge (May 11) – 7 AM will be the starting time of this 32-k mountain biking challenge. The registration fee, which is 300 pesos, includes race bib, event shirt, lunch, and 1 bottle of cold beer.
St. Catherine of Alexandria Dagan Sikad Dagan (May 17) – This an off-road duathlon for a cause that will take place in Carcar City, Cebu at 7 AM. Starting and finishing line is at Carcar Parish Plaza, while registration is at St. Catherine Parish Office and Eyetune Optical Clinic.
7th Olango Challenge (May 17) – The 2k and 6k races (both fun and competitive) will be in Mactan Island, Cebu and cost 800 pesos for the registration.
Home Run 2014 (May 18) – This event will take place in Cebu Business Park. 3K, 6k, and 12k races will start at 4 AM.
2nd Bogo City Duathlon Trail Challenge (May 18) – The duathlon trail challenge for this event will begin at 5 AM in Nailon, Bogo City, Cebu. Registration fee is 800 pesos, inclusive of a race bib, a singlet, and snacks.
SikaRun – Sikad Dagan sa Liloan (May 24) – 6 AM is the official time of this event which will take place in Mahayahay, Jubay. To register, participants may go to the Liloan Municipal Hall or Globex Logistics Corporation in Subangdaku, Mandaue City or Paul DP Graphics Design in Mandaue still.
Adik ug Dagan University (May 24) – Categories for the race are 100k and 50k, priced 1,700 and 1,200 pesos respectively. It will start at 6 PM in Danao City, Cebu.
