As March 29 nears, do you wonder how the whole Cebu takes part in this year’s Earth Hour movement?
Cebu’s local government units and commercial establishments have partnered to make the
hour long activity fruitful. At 8AM on March 29, SM City Cebu and SM City Consolacion, in
collaboration with the local government units, will spearhead a program that will take place in
front of SM City Cebu’s The North Wing. There will be professional percussionists and fire dancers
to entertain the audience, and the program’s highlight will be the participation of Tindak Sugbo, a
group of Cebu bikers who will go around the major streets in Cebu City on Saturday.
HOUR-LONG SWITCH OFF
At 8:30PM, SM City Consolacion and Shelter Foundation will light the solar lamps from the Liter
of Lights, the multinational social enterprise that’s responsible for re-purposing discarded plastic
bottles and installing them as sustainable lighting materials for improvised housing projects.
Cebu Holdings Inc. (CHI) and Cebu Property Ventures and Development Corp. (CPVDC) will
also show their support by switching off lights and using other sustainable types of lighting in
Cebu Business Park and Cebu I.T. Park during the hour-long lights-off movement.
MALL EVENTS AND OTHER EARTH HOUR ACTIVITIES
Ayala Center Cebu will hold a countdown at The Terraces from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM featuring
Aria-University of Cebu Dance Company, UC Chorale, Poi Galore, and other special guests. After
which, there will be a musical show called “Folk for the Earth”, which will then feature local
bands, such as Womb, Ella Mendez, Wonggoys, and Mother Folker.
Aside from this interesting program, Ayala Center Cebu is organizing a range of mall wide
activities that aim to increase the awareness of customers regarding the Earth Hour movement and
the world’s advocacy for sustainability. They are also encouraging merchants and restaurants
inside the mall to actively participate in the switch off and make use of alternative, more
sustainable lighting during the hour long activity.
Earth Hour 2014 at SM City Cebu
Finally, there will be a Habagat Night Ride on the same date at 6:30 PM at the I.T. Park Grounds
in Lahug, Cebu City. More interesting details can be found on their official event poster below:
